Well, it's been five years since I've recorded a podcast episode on Smart Planning 101, but I'm back. And the content is more important now than ever. In this short episode, I'll explain why I stopped recording episodes. But why I'm restarting now and why you will want to join me. This is the Smart Planning 101 podcast.
In Honolulu, Hawaii, Aloha, everyone. I'm Nicole Wipp, and I'm your host.
So here's why I actually stopped recording this podcast. In January of 2015, I was hospitalized for 30 days. I had a completely unexpected healthcare crisis. I found out in January of 2015, that I had a rare lung disease. And I'm going to tell you guys right now, this completely blindsided me. Up until the minute that I had to go to the hospital.
I was a pretty healthy appearing, healthy seeming person. , there were some signs prior to my going to the hospital, but they weren't so bad that I actually thought I was going to be that sick. And it was crazy. And, what made it crazy also was that unexpected healthcare crises are what I was dealing with and what I still deal with every single day as an elder law attorney. But then let's make it even crazier because like I said, I was comparatively young compared to my clients, for example, and I really had no reason to believe that I was sick. And yet. It happened to me.
So, dealing with my own healthcare issues while being a mother and a business owner just got too much for me. I just couldn't do the podcast as well. Now the good news about all of this as I have since recovered, I still have this lung condition, but , my doctors have always said that I sort of am miraculous in my recovery, which has been great. And I'm really grateful for that.
And then the advent of COVID. And I know that one of the things we always say is COVID, but COVID. But for me, the advent of COVID really showed me once again. More than ever, how being prepared for the unexpected really does matter. I mean, all we've been doing for the past year and a half is dealing with the unexpected, right guys? And so that's why I knew that I had to restart this podcast. Because also there's just so much out there. That's false today alone, I had a client say something to me that was completely false information, but they heard it from some people and, they had no reason to disbelieve it.
What that does to people is it makes things confusing, and so that's what this podcast is all about. We want to cut through the noise of the legal, financial, and healthcare issues that we're facing, separately, in our families, and together as a country and bring expert level scrutiny to the important issues in your life, or in the lives of the people that you care about. And that's why I'm asking you to subscribe and join me.
